Sometimes you hardly recognise the child you’ve raised. The teenage years have hit and parenting’s suddenly become so much trickier! There may be bad language, insolence or outright defiance. Perhaps you even suspect your teen’s using drugs. If life at home isn’t as happy as you’d like, Primary Care Teen Triple P may help.
This is a very brief and personal way for parents of adolescents (aged 12 to 16 years) to get their Triple P help.
You’ll see a Triple P provider about four times. You can go alone or with your partner and there will be no other parents at these sessions. You’ll discuss the problems you’re having and decide what changes you would like to see in your teen’s behaviour. Your provider will give you some suggestions to help you deal with the problem.
You will also be given a tip sheet to take home. The tip sheet will remind you of the great ideas you’ve discussed. You may also see a DVD that shows other parents dealing with similar problems with their own teens.
A Primary Care Teen consultation can last anything from 15 minutes to half an hour. Over four sessions that’s a maximum of two hours – two hours that could help you turn your family life around!
